| Corvallis Cyclery ~ A History |
|---|
| by Roger Gaither, President of the Santiam Spokes |
| Kay was visiting Granada, Spain from her home in Corvallis when she met Enrique in 1972. Twenty-two at the time, Enrique was working in his father’s bike shop, where he began his career by restoring and refurbishing 200 bikes that Ermo, his father, had gotten from the Granada Police Department. Enrique was actually born in the bike shop’s second story apartment and grew up in the shop.
Kay and Enrique were married in 1974 and moved to Switzerland where they started a bike shop named “Enrico Biciclette & Ciclomotori.” They moved to Corvallis late in 1987 and purchased Corvallis Cyclery in January 1988 from Bob Peterkort and Greg Darling. Bob and Greg had started the shop in 1974. Along the way Kay and Enrique had four children: Jenny ~ who is studying to be a physician, Noemi ~ who is a flight attendant, John ~ who is working at Corvallis Cyclery, and Francisco ~ who is working with Home Life. If you love bicycling in the Valley, then this shop is simply the greatest. The staff all love bicycling and help others every day to discover the joys and benefits of cycling. They have it all: from quality children’s bikes, to off-road, to road bikes of all descriptions including recumbants, tricycles, electric assist, folding, tandems, sport, racing and touring bikes. And they have an incredible array of accessories including clothing, shoes, bottles, racks, lights, helmets, tires, flashers, packs & panniers, meters, tools, etc., etc. The staff are experts (truly) in maintaining and Corvallis Cyclery repairing bikes. Matthew has assembled a single and tandem touring bikes for me including building flawless wheels. Dan once rescued me by sending two new 27” tires to a post office in Virginia where I was on tour Across America. So if you love bicycling, you can’t do better than Corvallis Cyclery. |
